Hey Elite, this might not be the same as your experience but I’ve had good results with not cleaning the case necks at all. The residual carbon seems to act as enough of a Lube.

there is one on my bench. it does not work as well as it looks, as after a couple of cases a case does not pick up any mica. there are times i do use it, but not many.

IF i am going to brush i run the brush in by hand. i have board made that holds a bush and a primer pocket cleaner and will clean a pocket and reverse the case and run it over the brush.

That works fine if you shoot those loads fairly soon after loading, if they sit for long periods of time I've experienced cold weld with pressure and POI issues.

Just a nylon hand brush through the necks, and apply some imperial graphite lube on the inside of the necks with a q tip before seating has been most consistent for me.

Interesting, I’ll have to keep an eye on that. Thanks!

Roughly 6 months. I noticed it in 2 rifles with rounds I loaded late summer/early fall and shot the following spring.

Shot some last weekend that I loaded last summer with graphite and it was as good as ever. 10 shot group including cold bores from 2 different days.

Are you doing load development with the graphite or can it be done after a load is completed without negative side effects?

At this point it's just part of my process, but originally I tested it on a proven load and it made no difference.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn’t know cold welding was a thing for ammunition until recently. I normally load 50-100 rounds at a time and then just use them until I run out, which could be several months to a year depending on the rifle. I’ve been considering starting to take mitigating steps but would hate to have to revisit load development on proven loads.

In brass that has been fired I use a stiff nylon neck brush in a drill. I go till the brass is warm to the touch. This burnishes the carbon in the neck and gives a very consistent result. In new brass I dip them in graphite.
If you are concerned with cold weld you can load long (back out the seat stem 1 full turn) Then reseat before use- this will break the cold weld.

All of my stuff is pre loaded and almost always tends to sit. Never have elevation issues. I rarely shoot close like 100yds. Mostly shoot 500M and further. Maybe I don’t have cold weld elevation issues because I always shoot cold welded ammunition? I either don’t clean necks or it’s just a quick in and out with a nylon brush. I’ve played with neck lube’s but didn’t get much if anything out of it so it was wasted time for me.
