So there are a few threads on the new MR bear tooth and sawtooth packs and the differences and compatibility of the new GUIDE LIGHT MT FRAME and the older generation NICE and Guide Light bags. After talking to MR, they are going to offer a product called the Time Machine sometime next year. You can order a pre-production version by calling the repairs department at MR. Customer service experience was, as always, top notch.
The kit consists of a handful of buckles and straps that replace the hardware on the PACK SIDE and allow you to use NICE frame and Guide Light frame packs on the new GUIDE LIGHT MT FRAME. Cost is $20 shipped. Installation requires rethreading a lot of straps but not cutting off the buckles. I haven't actually done it so can't comment on how easy it is or how well it works for that matter. Eyeballing the kit and my new frame, it seems like it is something you are going to want to do as a semipermanent conversion, ie swap the buckles and leave them on the pack. You are also likely to want to have a set for each pack you "convert" to avoid the pain in the ass of swapping buckles. It might be possible to actually run both kinds of buckles on the pack at once, using one set and just leaving the hardware on for the other type, but I didn't get far enough into it to be certain. I am sure some crafty DIY person could, with the right hardware, rig up a plug and play adaptor set too that would clip end to end on the existing pack buckles and new frame.
I can't say that the new pack hardware is any better than the standard stuff, but I give credit to MR for continuing to evolve their product while still providing for backward integration.
