My Kifaru Experience Today
Just wanted to share my experience with Kifaru today. I went by this morning to get some help fitting my DT1.
First things that happens is I go to open the door and it’s locked. Then I realized I am old and did not read the sign that clearly states “buzz for someone to let you in” or something like that.
So I push the button and a nice young man comes to the door, holds it open for me and asks me if he could help me. The first thing that comes to mind is the Rokslide thread about the flat brimmed peckerwood hat. Some of you with recall that thread – right up there with manscaping…. So I said “Aron said y’all had some flat brimmed peckerwood hats in stock”. This nice young man squints his eye a bit and say “We have some hats but not sure if they are flat brimmed”. He was great and never missed a beat. So then I told him what I really needed was some help fitting my pack. He tells me to bring it in and he would get someone to help me.
Out comes David and he helps me. He actually taught me as we went along how to measure, where to measure, how to adjust. I’m pretty ignorant because I hunted for many years with a boy scout type pack if you know what I mean. David was really nice – helped me understand that I had the wrong size belt and that the pack was not adjusted properly for my height. Got me squared away. My DT1 is a different pack now compared to when I walked in.
Next I visited with Frank to order a new belt since there were no medium muticams in stock. Again a great customer experience.
Oh and I got a Nalgene bottle and water bottle sleeve. Clear one so I can use a steripen more effectively. What the heck I didn’t get fired this week so I bought myself a gift.
So my thanks to Patrick Smith whom I have had the pleasure of speaking with deep into the night in the shelter of a Kifaru teepee. To Aron for the help and encouragement he gave to an old guy doing the steps at Red Rock and for carrying on Patrick’s tradition. And the folks at Rokslide for the memories I am creating at 12000 feet.
Oh yeah, Kifaru does have some hats on sale on their website….. 2 styles to choose from – no flat brimmed peckerwood hats though.
