Getting ready to order a bartlein 2b barrel and want to have a brake for range trips. Barrel diameter at 22" should be .654-.660 and I was told I'll need to use 9/16 threads, but the only brake I've found is the gen I micro bastard. For those that brake smaller barrels, is the thread advice I got sound right and if so are there any other brakes I can consider? Smith will be installing for me but would prefer a self timing if there is one that would work on a small barrel.

Just bought an APA "the answer" brake from a guy on here. Threads to 1/2 x 28. Called the smith and he said no problem for my stainless Tikka.

Ya I make my Titanium 4 port sporter brake in 1/2-28. I always tell people to go smaller on the muzzle threads if you want a Ti brake, that way you are replacing more steel with titanium and ultimately saving more weight. it is .73” OD and can be turned to match your barrel diameter. They weigh in around .9oz, and are $100 shipped. F1BF6523-3E4A-4943-8F1F-46C1C312C8F4.jpeg

my smith first threaded the barrel and put a 1/2-28 micro bastard on my t3x lite 300wsm and it blew it off the first shot! not sure if they turned it down too much to match barrel profile, it wasn't drilled out properly, or what. they replaced with area 419 hellfire and that brake is awesome, super reduction of recoil.

Thanks for the photo. Is that a bartlein 2b? Asking because at 24" the muzzle measures at .630 per their contour sheet. At 23" is should be .642"

Looks like the #2 comes in at .600 at 24", which would be about where you are at 23"

I didn't think anyone wieghted any of components or even the rifle after it was finished but I'll double check my notes for you. The fluting is very shallow so minimal savings at best anyways.
They called that fluting the wave pattern turned out looking pretty sharp.
