MT surplus tags and alternate list

Question: if you buy a surplus MT elk tag, can you still put your name on the alternate list for deer?

Yes, you can put in for general deer alternate list. If you applied in the first draw, you will get priority when getting assigned your random number over someone who did not apply.
Typically, I don’t think as many general deer get returned as the combos, and sometimes you will get the notification of availability to purchase mid season. Good luck.

What is the latest greatest concerning the deer tag alternates list? I have a friend who is at 540 something and another at 1000ish. The numbers haven't updated on the MYFWP like they usually do over time? Any update?

I was told the other week that emails were supposed to start going out, but my number hasn't changed.

I talked to FWP yesterday and they said the next batch of emails should go out later this week. Hopefully just in time for me before I fly out on Saturday.

Never checked what number I was figured I didn't have a chance. Then I got the successful letter in the mail. Every now and again an unlucky dog gets thrown a bone.
