Oregon has been trying to make certain poaching offenses into felony crimes . Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be making much progress through our legislative committees.

Good to hear, I'm hoping punishments continue to increase. There's simply too much land to patrol effectively, fear needs to be the biggest deterrent to poaching.

I agree that the punishment is very strong and i agree that outlaw poachers never had a license to begin with. I still think a crime of that sort should be lifetime ban from hinting and fishing by all states and possibly have their gun privileges revoked as well.

Interesting report no information on how the case was developed, but glad they threw the book at him. While I like to see poachers convicted
I think it’s important to remember many such cases are plea deals for mild sentences. Absent a plea deal a lot of guys would get off for whatever they paid in attorneys fees. I’d like to see repeat poachers charged with felonies. Then when they go back to poaching, perhaps getting caught with a gun the case becomes felon in possession of a firearm. That’s actually a law with teeth.

I mustache you a question. Do you regret poaching that elk? lol
Like said already, "Way to go Montana". I just can't comprehend why anyone would want to kill and just leave them to rot. That guys got a serious mental condition. Perhaps after jail they should admit him to a mental institution.

There is president for guys shooting trophy animals just for their antlers. Some go back after dark. Some leave them to rot and claim as a pick up. I even saw in texas they will wire the antlers to a tree so the yotes wont carry them off.

Best result ive seen in Ga.
Two convicted felons. trespassing, hunting with out a license. These 2 charges don't carry any weight. Felon in position of a firearm. Got both of them several years.

I'm not sure a guy who shoots bulls and drives off actually cares if he has a license....

Good work by the fwp.

Exactly. I’m assuming these were shot out of season/no license. (Too lazy to check if MT has a season in Feb 😉) I’d be willing to bet my next paycheck he ain’t done poaching.

Well done Montana.

I agree with ntrlbrnhunter. Not only do poachers show poor moral value they give all of us hunters a bad name. Those out there that don’t hunt lump us all together and it gives us a black eye.

I know this dipshit personally. I'm not one to dislike many people, but He is the epitome of a waste of oxygen. Wish they would have gave him more.

I hope more states follow the lead here. Simply have to lock these guys up to get the message across to some people. Loss of hunting privileges doesn’t seem like it will bother the dude but the other penalties might do the trick.
