Is a mountain spring bear worth it? Meat and pelt any good? Ive never hunted a bear before but wouldn't getting into the mountains since there isn't any where I live.

Early spring right at green-up the hides are often fabulous. Not so later…June is too late. And they are typically fine eating in the spring. Not as fat post hibernation.

And spring before the mosquitoes and black files are out is a great time to hunt!

Mountain bear hunting in the spring is a great way to get in the woods for something other than turkeys. I have hunted ID several times. The meat is always great, but the hides can be hit or miss depending on how long after snowmelt you go. Planning an out of state hunt can be tough as snow melt is different every year. One year the hides will be fine in late May, the next year their sides might be rubbed bald by late May. The other thing to consider is spring rains, some years will be great weather, others you will be hunting wet everyday.
