I am looking for a good set of puffy pants for those cold windy days hunting here in ND. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with these or others. I plan on putting them on over my other layers once I get to my glassing area. The compressor pants interest me because of the reinforced knees and butt. I am guessing this is a must to prevent puncturing them when wearing as the outer layer.

I have used these pants for four years now. I use them as a warm outer layer when I stop to glass. As far as the warmth factor goes, they do their job as intended. I also like the full leg length zippers as it makes for an easier time getting them off and on over my boots.

My biggest complaint, and the reason why I will be looking for another brand of puffy pants when these wear out is, durability. They rip and tear easily. The reinforced knees and butt work, well, for the knees and butt, but the other areas of the pants wear out quickly, at least in my experience. Keep in mind I am harder on gear than most, so your mileage may vary.

I will be looking at purchasing Barney's pants as my next set of puffy pants in the spring. Barney's is going to a new supplier with the demise of Integral Designs, so we'll see what they come up with, hopefully something good.

Thanks for the information! That is exactly what I was looking for. I run mostly Kuiu gear right now and it has done well for me but I am a little concerned with their super down pants snagging on me. The temps vary greatly here in ND and the wind is almost always present. I often hunt with my dad which prevents me from sleeping a short distance from where I plan to hunt that day. Usually a fair amount of walking is required to get to our hunting area and I need a pair of pants that I can slip over my other clothing once I am ready to start glassing.

O'Really did you find these pants true to size. I mean if you have a 34 waist with normal pants do you need to go up in size with these?

Well, I tend to upsize anyhow with puffy pants, as I am usually putting them over top a considerable amount of under layers. For example, I am 6'0", anywhere between 190-200 lbs during the hunting season, and about 175 at the end of my hunting season. Therefore, my waistline changes a bit, but, I do prefer sizing up, as I wear the XL's. If I am in skinny mode, well, then I just cinch em up good.

For the most part though, I believe puffy pants are something that is generally best worn upsized.

They also have a lot of room for adjustment. I have been using my MH compressor pant for a year and O'really is spot on, my only complaint is they can be a little fragile. It also helps that I found them on Steap and Cheap for about $75

I have a pair of the Compressor's and really like them, althouth they diffinitely are not the most durable product on the market. www.barneyssports.com
has a much more durable puffy pant (Frontier Gear of Alaska Brooks Range Pant) but they also costs considerably more.
