More truck tire questions

Hey guys,
Due for some new rubber on my truck. 23 2500 at4. I have 20” stock rims on it and have been kicking around getting 18” to get as much tire on it as I can. I’m not looking to do any suspension adds. Just wondering if anyone’s done the same or should I just stick what I can get on the stockers and call it good
 
It depends on how many more times you plan to buy new tires, the size and cost of tires you want, the cost of the new smaller wheels you want, and whether or not you can sell the take-offs. Do you know if the rotors and calipers will fit under an 18" wheel?

In the end, the cost most likely won't be worth the performance benefit. The look is what will change the most.

Ended up with Falken Rubitreks

I don’t off road, 95% of my driving is road/highway. Maybe some dirt and gravel backroads or park service roads. I managed 73k out of the stock general grabbers. The “singing” and vibrations were getting worse at road speeds, (55 up). I rotate every 5-6000 miles and had them balanced this time. No luck.

Small shop out the road from me is doing it for $820.00.
 
Best of luck...don't wait long. We just got the inevitable "our prices are going up xx% on this and that brand due to tarrifs abd materials price increases"...from all our tire vendors.
Id just stick to the 20s. Likely more options/availability...seems to be more popular wheel size...I dont think your gonna notice much ride difference in a 3/4 ton.
Most of your name brands will have something to suite your needs whether that be At or HT application. Stay away from the cheep stuff. Mastercraft is about the lowest price points Id consider. They have some decent tires, they just don't typically last more than 4-5 years without heavy cracking setting in.
About anything you can name tire wise someone will love them and someone will hate them. The cheap stuff tends to not balance out or do as well in wet weather.
Pick your poison, swallow and smile.
 
I've got 20's on my Ram 2500, I would just stick with them. The spares Ram uses are 18's. so roto clearance should not be a problem if you go that route. After I wore out the factory Firestones , I just put a good pair of A/T's on.
 
My Ram 2500 diesel eats through A/T tires. With that being said, I've stuck with Nitto Grapplers as they seem to offer the best of both worlds for my use. I did have a pair of General Grabbers that lasted a good bit longer but were better suited for Highway driving.
 
I would absolutely go down to 18” rims. It will ride better and allow you more ability to air down for off road applications. Plus tires are cheaper. Probably not enough to make it zero sum, but I’d still do it for the benefits.
 
285/65/20 has been the size I run for many years. Good mix between sidewall and it's typically a width that can be fit relatively easily. It works out to 35"x11.5"x20". Be sure to look at the actual size from the manufacturer. There can be up to 1/2" difference between brands.

I tried Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs last time and they didn't hold up for shit then my truck dropped a lifter. I picked up a Tundra with Ridge Grapplers on it and will go a different route once those are done. I'll likely try some Falkens.
 
Had good luck with Falken's on my jeep, have not tried them on a truck yet.
 
I almost did exactly this a couple of months ago, my primary goal was ride improvement.

With the Cooper at3 xlt that I wanted with the same diameter and width, and the same model Method wheels, the 18s were going to be more expensive.

Decided I didn't want spend more money to possibly not like the look as much.
 
I'll take more sidewall and less rim every time.

Could probly round up some factory takeoffs for the price of the tires that are on them.
 
If going down in size have you considered going to 17s if they will fit? From what I’ve seen there’s a bigger selection of tires & sizes for 17s than 18s & the wheels & tires are cheaper.
 
Update on this, just going the new tire route. Holy cow aftermarket rims got pricey since I was in high school 😂

Well personally I really like the added sidewall protection of a 17-18” rim. However I would have a hard time saying the extra $1k or close to that is worth the new rims unless you’re also wanting a new look for your truck. Just some fresh meat on your 20’s would be my recommendation unless you have the cash and want an update.
