Anyone spent much time there? I know it's a small town that isn't really close to anything. What are the mountains like that are close by? I'm trying to decide whether or not to pursue a job opportunity in that area.

A lot of cool canyon country all around. If you aren't LDS may be socially isolated. Lots of places to mountain bike, climb, run side by sides/motorcyles, camp. I'm moving to Dolores, CO next week, about an hr away, great mountain access from there. Not sure about the mountains right outside of Monticello.

I am not from there but been through many times. The The La Sal mountains over there are not huge but there is a lot of area to explore. If you like to hike and camp you could spend your lifetime over in that area exploring. You would also only be 2 hours from Durango and good hunting, hiking and camping in SW Colorado.

I love the area. Tons of stuff to do close by and last time I checked real estate was not crazy. It is at high elevation compared to Moab so the summers are mild and the winters colder. It is a small town and there doesn’t seem to be too much going on.

Really cool area, Monticello itself is pretty lame.

I would do a year or 2 there while young and unattached, definitely wouldn’t consider anything more than that.

I like Monticello based on recreating around there since I live in Western Colorado. The Abajo (Blue) mountains are right next to it and the canyon country is great. It can be quite snowy. You would move there for the outdoor opportunities, not the town.

That’s one of my favorite places in the world. Tremendous recreation in almost every direction.

Mountains are up and down, pretty steep. Elk Ridge not so much. Cortez is an hour away which will have more to offer as far as getting stuff goes, but between Monticello and Blanding there is enough to go weeks without having to go to Cortez.

I love that area. You’ll be living smack dab in the mountains really. Montecello itself is like 7,000 ft elevation. You’ll get a lot of the same country as Moab, without any of the tourist madness.
