Hello,
My wife and I are heading to MT in a few weeks in search of a new place to raise our family. We are actively looking in the Butte to Helena area. I work for a natural gas distribution company In Pa and I am hoping to find work I the same field.
Do any of yous have any experiance with Northwest energy, or the areas I have mentioned that you could share with me. I'm open to all experiance. Feel free to PM me. We plan on visiting areas from bozeman to kalispell while we are out there this time and gradually narrowing down our search, but jobs will ultimately determine where we go. Thanks for any suggestions

I live 20 miles west of Kalispell, I have worked around Northwest Energy in the construction field. They are a good company to work for. There is a lot work in the Flathead, Kalispell is a good place to raise a family. Bozeman is growing also.

Good luck

Where from in PA? I am in. Similar boat, live by the state college area, originally hail from Alberta, and am in a rut of working in gas market, on the east coast. Life out here is good, but miss the mountains, and mountain hunting, and a good pace to raise a family.

Been toying with the idea of MT or moving back to Alberta at some point too. OTC sheep tags etc.

Be interesting to see where your road goes.

My wife and I moved to great falls montana last year from California to raise our kids in a better place. We're very happy with great falls and all of the little towns around it are great as well. Employment here is very good from what I've seen especially if you can get a civilian job at the local air force base. There are several thriving industries in the area though.

Helena is nice also and the mountains are closer. Butte, wouldn't be my first choice to raise a family in but it depends what you're looking for. I had my choice between Kalispell, Missoula, Helena and great falls and I'm still satisfied with where we are. We instantly made a lot of good friends through our church though so I won't deny being a little bit biased lol :)

Chiming in with a thumbs-up for Townsend as well. Just drove through there this past weekend with the boat and the local gas delivery outfit (Madison River Propane) had a big sign by the road - Now Hiring. If work is of primary concern - that's an option for you. Nice little community too. It's on our list for our next move. We're currently in Bozeman. Scratch that one off your list , if it was under consideration. Cost of living is super-crazy, unless you're independently wealthy or were already here before the influx.

I've done a lot of sub-contrasting work with NWE, and have interacted with a bunch of their employees. It seems like hhey're a pretty good operation to work for, especially for Montana.

Please, whatever you decide don't bring an eastern big city attitude with you, that's what has screwed up Bozeman. Assimilate and accept the lifestyle and you'll enjoy the state.

A line on a map between Missoula and Helena is a good reference. The weather gets worse north of that line and employment gets tougher to find but outdoor activities get better. The weather to the east of the divide (Helena and east) is hotter and dryer and the towns and cities are smaller.
