I'm from over in Billings and going over to 455 for elk this archery season. I have 12 days off just for elk hunting. Does anybody have any advise on this area? I was also looking at the Whitetail Prairie right above Cotton Creek which was bought and added to the Beartooth WMA last year. I'm not looking for a monster just wanna get into bulls any advise?

Lots of fellow hunters, and no back country camping. You have to stay in the designated areas at the roads/trailheads. I have spent a bit of time on the beartooth, and a ton of time on a neighboring ranch, and whitetail prairie is an elk hot spot. But I also think it will get hit hard this year.

I've got a really bad feeling it's going to be really hard to find any public land without a bunch of other bow hunters

It's like anything else. You walk far enough and pretty soon you're on your own. Burn boot leather because there are quite a few lazy hunters in every state.
