A question for you gun savvy people…
I rebarreled a model 70 classic from 30-06 to 7-08. I find that the cartridges don’t fit quite right in the magazine. Because the 7-08 case is slightly fatter just below the shoulder than the 30-06 case, it angles the rear of the cases downward slightly, which makes it difficult for the bolt to grab the cartridges on the left hand side of the magazine. Also, because the cases are slightly fatter near the shoulder, fitting five down in the magazine is quite tight. Should I take it to a smith and see if he can shave the follower a bit to fit the new case dimensions? Or is there another simpler fix? I thought of buying a short action follower, but don’t want to have a gap in the magazine. Thanks
