Might be a dumb question...Mystery Ranch Pop Up 40

Brother just bought a Mystery Ranch Pop Up 40 pack.
This is his first higher end pack.
When we got it in I noticed this on the top of the pack.
What is this for? is it to add something as far as an accy?
almost looks like a piece is missing but the images of others i found online show the same.
Just dont know a lot about the Mystery Ranch stuff.

It's a 1/4-20 thumbscrew intended to be used as a place to mount binos, spotter, ballhead, etc.

I’ve played with mine the other day. I thought it wouldn’t be sold. What I found is you can sit down and tilt the back onto you legs and adjust the pop up to desired height and clamp it down and really solid. It was a good idea
