Mid range bow recommendations

Switched to crossbow a couple years back and have never been able to get ride of the dirty feeling!
Heading out west for some archery in the fall and looking to get back into compound shooting in the next month so I am fully prepared.


What do you guys recommend in the 5-750 range? I have been looking at some Quest bows that are new modes but have given thought to buying nicer model that might be two years old.

Any help here fellas?

You can get a new Bowtech Carbon Icon DLX ready to hunt for around $1000, not sure how much it is just bare bow. It's worked well for me.

Look at Craigslist there’s a lot of 3 to 4 year old flag ship bows with accessories for 500 - 750 not a lots changed in bows in the last 5 years

You can go over to Archery Talk as well and pick up 1 or 2 year old bows for 4 to 500. A lot of the guys over there buy a new bow every year it seems. Dealers sell bows over there as well, I picked up a Xpedition Xcursion 6 today, shop demo bow, with a warranty for 545, thats a little over half off new.

I just grabbed a Prime Centergy Hybrid lightly used with a rest and arrows for $370 off Archery Talk.

Sold the arrows and rest to help pay for a new rest and sight. I will have $450 into the set up total excluding quiver/stabilizer.

I just saw 3 Primes new sell on ebay for around $450 a piece.

If you are diligent deals are around for quality bows.

If you can I would buy a new mid range bow, there is a lot of good ones. Support your local dealer if you have one we need those guys. Plus you will have a great warranty if you need it. Pse just came out with a drive xl it's a sweet bow!

I'd buy used, but make sure that you figure out your draw length first, and whether or not bows you look at used are adjustable. Example: Hoyts are adjustable within a range, Primes are not and need a cam replacement.

Centergy Hybrid was a great bow. If I see a smoking deal I might pick one up again.

Agree with all the guys above. I bought a 1yr old used Bowtech Reign and couldn’t be happier with it...and that I paid half price compared to a new bow.

I just bought the Quest thrive and it's a nice bow for the money I got a great deal on it as it was a leftover. I have only shot it to 40 yards so far but it seems to be every bit as smooth and accurate as my old Mathews. It's got a pretty firm backwall. I just couldn't bring myself to spend 1,400 on a bare bow when I have a general tag in Mt. to save up for.

Check out Athens Archery. Brand new bows are running $799 with a lifetime transferable warranty. You'd be hard pressed to find a new bow of that quality for less than $1k.

I agree with most of the responses above. Buy a used bow and use the savings on more gear. Preferably one that you could shoot before hand but I know that's not always possible.

Shot a Prime Ion yesterday. Dude said it was a 2018 Priced at 450 brand new but bare. Any reviews of the ion?

Going to another bow shop tomorrow that carries both new and used tomorrow.

Coming from shooting hoyts for the past ten years and a few Mathews ahead of that. Look at the bear Kuma. I'm really impressed with the bow. I have 2 now. One at 72# and another @ 48# for target archery. Really easy to tune. Don't know that you can beat it for the money.

I know when spending hundreds of your earned dollars it's nice to have people that have the experience with the item to tell you "no your not buying a pos" or whatever but what are you looking for someone to tell you about it? As far as a general review I found a bunch on YouTube and also written ones on the internet. I assume since it's a prime they have free strings for life being the original owner. That's a plus. It has a roller guard instead of a slide which is good. It has primes 7k aluminum riser and cam system that alot of people like. It's a limb stop which I personally prefer for the solid back wall.

At this point in bow technology there all pretty much the same. Most differences being cosmetic, different valleys, different back wall, and different grip. And then mechanically the tuning of a bows varies.

I've never shot the bow but If you shot it then ask yourself... did you like the way it felt in your hand? (If not, find one with a different style grip) did you like the feel of it when you drew the bow? ( some are smooth all the way through and others have a noticeable "hump" in the valley when the cam rolls over to the back wall) did you like the solid feeling of the back wall being a limb stop? ( a cable stop can have a spongy effect when your at full draw creating the ability to force it to pull further than intended) if you answer yes to these questions then get it. If theres anything about shooting that bow that you didnt like then move on. I dont know a ton about bows but I've told you everything I can think of to help you make a decision. Just wanted personal experiences with it. I have shot a few of them and love the feel but like to be diligent. Was also curious about feedback on the price as I feel it’s a solid deal!

My only concern is axle to axle is shorter then other prime bows. Would prefer longer for out west but shorter is better for my whitetail excursions.

I would shoot this bow.Likely get into it for under $800 and it's really a 'Chill' on steroids and,IMO,the Chill was/is one of Mathews best bows.

The newer, PSE Decree's and DNA SP's, etc. are, FAST powerful, Bows and reasonably priced if, buying a 2-3 yr old "old Stock" bow. The grip takes some getting used to but they, shoot great ! Some of the Bow Tech's are nice like, the Reign ! Good luck !

Went with Prime Ion. Brand new in box for 400 . Really wanted the warranty from Prime on strings and cables. Should be perfect for my Michigan/Kansas whitetail hunts and chasing elk for first time his fall!

Had I been approved to post on AT I might have went used.
