Micro panhead for shooting tripod?

It's not the same principle, but the rifle rest with the 2 points of contact with the gun has worked great for me with my Pan head. I have made good shots on every animal I have used it on so far, longest was around 380 yards.

Something to keep in mind, when using a panhead, you won't be able to adjust for any tilt on your rifle if the tripod legs aren't setup level.

My plan is to use a ball head for such a purpose, even though I prefer a pan head for glassing

Here is what I’m trying this year. It’s an rrs anvil head. Works with a pic rail or Arca Swiss. Lever operated. No extras to take out to shoot. Gun locks in solid. Actually really like the head for glassing, this year locks up with zero movement, and has no problem supporting a rifle.

Looks good! What type of mount do you have on the Manners?

If wanting to stay with outdoorsmans, could go with the Jim White 2 that is Arca Swiss compatible.

I just use a saddle on my micro panhead, but do agree that a ball head is Probably best for shooting.

Looks great! So no issues glassing with the Anvil?

I think this would be great to be able to replace my current Benro S2 on my Promaster XC525C if I could completely replace the head and use for binos/rifle.

None so far. Actually is a little better with the spotter because it locks up without moving, and can be set course enough to be able to move, but stay still when letting go. It replaced a benro S2. I’ll see how it goes this month, will have it out in Wyoming and Montana

It’s strong enough that I can clip on my gun, and completely let go of it. Can feather it to where I can move the gun but it stays when I let go. It’s quite the head. And it’s only 15oz

I have never used a high end pan head. Only the S2. But I like it more than the S2 that’s for sure.

I tried shooting off the pan head, it just didn’t support the rifle and was awkward with the panning.
