Micro magnum actions

Being stuck inside with the family sick leads to boredom…..wandering thoughts.

Sitting here thinking about how nobody liked the WSSM rounds. Maybe they were just too far ahead of their time. Nowadays everyone wants the lightest possible rifle. Ti, carbon fiber, skeletonizing, etc. With all these light weight improvements in recent years it would be cool to have a lightweight/micro action capable of firing the wssm rounds. With the advent of heavy bullets and faster twist rates, any of the 3 wssm offering would be very capable in an ultralight rig. I’m sure there are better engineers out there who could get them to feed reliably. With changeable bolt heads could also be a good 223/br/ppc action. Maybe this already exists? Does anybody make a custom micro action with magnum bolt heads? Or is the only option to buy an old wssm rifle and have it rebarreled? Again just thinking out loud here

I have a 25 WSSM and hunted with it for years. The rifle is an A Bolt Hunter. Always really liked the rifle and never had any feeding issues.
For a while I investigated rebarreling the rifle and setting it up to shoot heavier bullets in a 6.5 or 6mm. What I found was that 1. Long, heavy bullets don't really fit in the WSSM length action. It would be close in the 6mm or 223, probably too short in the 25 or 6.5. 2. It has identical powder capacity to the Creedmoor case. The Creedmoor has a great selection of available brass. The WSSM only has whatever old Winchester stuff could be scrounged up.
In short, it's a cool idea but the benefits are too minimal to create demand for it.

I had the impression the wssm case held the same volume as a 30-06, but I haven’t looked into it. What is the max coal the browning mag has? A 22wssm shooting 88eldms would be a hell of a deer rifle….

With the Howa mini with 6.5 Grendel and 6 ARC there isn’t much more to want.
Maybe you could stuff a WSSM in there and get another couple hundred fps.
