Simply beautiful morning out there today...the gobblers were off the hook as well. Pods of birds gobbling everywhere.

My barred rock rooster helps the situation as he crows non-stop every morning and the gobblers can't help but answer him, gives great intel on where to set up decoys for calling...
This 8" tom came in to my set looking for some a.m. love...

They are damn similar for sure. I wouldn't bet against it. The Rios are in the Snake R. country, it's possible/probable that they all inter-breed.

Congrats on your tom! I live in the front range in Colo. The eastern river bottoms to the foothills here tend to have rio crosses. Most of the western Colo birds tend to be pure white merriams….but sometimes I've found a few buff tailed birds. I'm starting to have a tougher and tougher time finding pure white birds in the foothills here in Colo and other Midwest states like eastern Nebraska.
