Have an opportunity to pick up a pair of B1 8x56s for a pretty good price. Anyone have any insight as to how they compare with 8x42s and will I see a difference? I'm not sure If they will better than a pair of Swaro 8.5x42 Els I can get my hands on for much more money.

I had a pair of Meostar 8x56 for a few years. they were very good, especially in very low light but my Meostar 7x42 and Blaser 8x42 were almost as good in low light and deep forest cover. The 8x56 maybe gave 5 more minutes at dusk than either of the others but not much more.

Late reply but a 56 mm will offer nothing more at 8 power. The human pupil doesn’t get much larger than 5mm so anything above 8x42 isn’t going to offer any extra useable light.
