Maven s1 problem?

I bought a well used one and was wondering if this is a problem with the unit or my expectations were too high. The scope is not clear, as hard as I try to focus it will be mediocre at best. It was raining last night and I spotted a grizzly and wanted a better look but all I got was eye strain and disappointment trying to look at the bear through the scope. My 10x42 b1.2s were significantly clearer and I could get a better picture of the bear through the binos.
