Kinda last minute but thinking it would be nice to have a satellite imagery map printed of an area we are going to hunt soon. Something weather proof that can be rolled up. This we we can point and easily discuss big picture plans and strategy without having to stare at / share a little electronic screen.

Suggestions?

Thanks. I was not able to find anything using search option. Called and they can print a topo for my area, which might be nice to have, but not super necessary. For $26 might be worth it though. Have been cutting and pasting zoomed in google images into one file. Going to see what that looks like printed at 24 x 24 at Office Depot and then laminated. Its not a navigational or safety tool. Just a large “ talk it over” option to have on hand

Have you tried just downloading them to your GPS or Cellphone? That's what I usually do. Put your phone on Airplane mode and GPS still works.

Yeah. That’ll be done. Plus GPS as back up with charts.

It’s just a bit of a pain in many conditions for two people to discuss plans with two big ol melons crowding a cell phone or GPS.

Got three maps printed today that turned out great. Again, just for both of us to comfortably check outback together to discuss a big move, new approach next day, etc. Fine tune can be electronic.

I have used mytopo.com fow a few years, but recently their service has gone to hell. The software they use will no longer allow self service map orders. Now you have to video chat with them and have them “make” your map.

I wish I could find a vendor who allows me to design my own maps instead of having to do it through a third party.

I hate to hear that. I have used them for many years and always 'built' my map online of the area that I wanted, then placed my order.

From what I heard today they have changed “systems” and things are slowly migrating. The lady I spoke with was able to search the “old system” and find one topo for my area She was extremely helpful.

I’ve had FedEx/Kinkos print out my OnX areas, double sided on waterproof paper. It is a little noisy but you can fold it up and fit it in a hip pocket.
That’ll work. What I wound up doing today will fit bill for what I needed. Just had to stand in line forever

Most cities have a blueprint or sign shop. I take thumb drives in to Rocky Mountain Blueprint here in Boulder all the time to get architectural drawings printed out. They have weatherproof papers and inks and do that kind of stuff all the time.

You can also print to pdf from Caltopo, to scale. As far as getting that on waterproof paper, you’ll need to hire someone with a plotter (office supply store or blueprint shop).

Never a bad idea to have a hard copy back up!

I should have qualified my statement. Their service hasn't "gone to hell". Their service is fine, but they are having issues with unsupported software.

I had to order my most recent maps using Zoom and I had to walk the lady through building the map I wanted. The process was awkward and it surely wasn't helped by my poor internet service(rural Alaska). The woman was helpful and pleasant, but she was obviously rushed/busy. So the maps that I ended up with were not as precise as I would have come up with if I had been given more time(or had been able to use the old system).

Anyway, I hope that they are able to get back to the level of simplicity that they had in the past.
