Horrible story.

My friends call me a whimp for wearing a harness in a stand. I call them idiots for not wearing one.

I had a little incident when I was younger leaning around the tree to get a shot and lost my balance a bit, didn't fall, but scared the $hit out of me. Always been strapped in ever since as soon as my feet leave the ground.

Had another guy close to here fall and die this year. I always wear a safety harness and prefer to have a life line on every tree that way you hook on when on the ground and you are never not connected to a safety line. I did fall one time as I was putting a stand up and was in a spot were I could not get a linemans line hooked, the linemans caught on the way down and stopped me from falling all the way to the ground. Only ended up with 5 stitches in my hand. The lifeline set ups are great, try them.

I've been hunting from trees for over 30 years, never used a harness. I've seen a lot of accounts of bad accidents on hunting forums, but this particular story really did get to me.

Read about this yesterday in the paper and damn near cried...horrible.

A guy I grew up with is paralyzed from falling from a tree stand, sounds like its all too common.
