I was really looking for a buck this season. But this mama doe was snorting & hissing at me. She saw me 1st, and got my attention with a snort. We starred each other down. I put my earing protection on... because she was just annoyed I was in her woods. That's how much time I had, just looking at each other. Finally I put my sights on her neck. She was still pissy I was in her woods, with her 2 little fawns close by.

She just wouldn't leave. Probably because she had the 2 fawns to protect. Finally I blasted her. and the 2 little fawns stayed around... but eventually they ran off.

Started gutting her, and she was full of milk. Saturated. End of Nov.. the 2 little fawns should make it, but I'm not a deer biologist.

Intentionally shooting a doe with two fawns is an unbecoming decision whether the little ones survive or not.

They should be just fine. 2 years ago we had 2 fawns that had spots at the end of November. My dad saw them all winter and spring. Tiniest deer on the ridge.

The fact is: it's 100% legal. It's done every year. Deer, Elk & many mama animals are taken. It's late November, and Mama doe is breeding again regardless. So any fawn can survive at this time.

I don't understand why some people get so upset about other people shooting does with fawns - from what I've read most of the time one of the fawns is a buck and will not disperse if the mother is shot - this seems like a good reason to shoot a doe with twins...

I took $hit last year from some hunting buddies when I passed on a doe with two fawns. (We were hunting to reduce does on a buddy's property.) I'm not knowledgeable enough to know when fawns are too young to survive alone, vs. when they are fine alone, so I've just made a personal decision to pass.

I thought language in which you describe the situation was more annoying than the outcome. "pissy I was in her woods" and then basically stating you shot her because she was annoying you......
I agree with this 100 percent. It seemed like the OP was talking about garbage, not an animal that deserves some level of respect. Most years I shoot a wet doe or two on ag land that is overrun with whitetails (and cwd) and I dont think twice about it, but I don't post about "blasting" them. Ethically, I don't see a problem with it. The fawns will probably live, it is legal, and whitetail numbers are not hurting.

The reality is that really high percentage of female undulates are either pregnant or wet during hunting season. Killing wet or pregnant females kinda feels wrong, but you have to come to terms with that if you hunt them.

Does get shot-all the time. What was the point of your post?? To brag you “took her out” or ask an indirect question about fawn survival-in the weirdest possible way??

Because most deer will run & not confront you. This deer literally confronted me in the woods. 1st time it ever happened. Yes, in ag country, deer will confront you, and stand their ground for a minute. But this deer was just putting up a serious front.

Probably not the choice I’d have made, but not here to pass judgment.
I’d have probably had a little fun with her somehow, thrown something at her or waved at her. Would have been a good opportunity to study deer behavior.
