Well we have officially left our home in NW Colorado and moved to Globe Arizona. We made trek down this past weekend and the house is full of boxes but I’m glad to be here. The weather is beautiful and so far I’ve been very impressed with the hunting potential.

Anyone else nearby to here?

I’m in Payson. Will you be working in the mines?

i lived in Safford area for 5 years and loved it. I drove through Globe/Superior area alot and always thought it would be an awesome place to live geographically, but my wife wasn't a big fan of the town itself. You're in the heart of coues country, lots of OTC bear hunting, close to lake, close enough to the city without living in the city, some of the best elk country in the world right close by. I've sinced moved back to utah and miss AZ a lot. Enjoy it.

Good for you. Don’t live in AZ but recently moved back to Idaho. Life is short, live it up as much as you can while you can.

No I work for the Forest Service. Fortunately or unfortunately if you want to move up you have to move on. In this case it seems like a good move.

That's awesome news! Globe has nearly limitless country surrounding it to explore. I make it through there every so often, I'm not far away down in Scottsdale. I love the drive up along 60, very scenic.

Welcome, I'm in the Valley too (Tempe). Deer and quail hunted the Globe area last fall

I'm in Gold Canyon just W of you before Apache Junction. I do a fair amount of off roading (RZR) in the Globe area during the fall/winter/spring. I hunted OTC deer last year just above Roosevelt Lake off of Cherry Creek Rd. I do believe that area got burned a few weeks ago. If you have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle you should take the drive up into the Pinal Mountains. It only takes a half hour to get out of Globe into the tall pines. That area will be packed this weekend.

My hunting partner, an engine captain in Payson, moved around a bit as well. Lucky for you, 24B burned over 100k+ acres last year. Should be lots of grass and easy glassing for the next few years.

In Gilbert in the hot valley. I make it up to Globe to do the AZ 3D shoots at the Apache bowhunters club. It is an awesome drive up that way and is only about 1 hr drive. Welcome!

Thanks for all the welcomes. I knew there was a reason I hang around on this site. @MattB355 I’m actually headed over to Apache bowhunters tonight to shoot. It’ll be nice having an archery range around.

So can someone explain the max points thing for AZ applications to me. I keep seeing reference to some tags go to max point holders but i can’t seem to find an explanation on the AZGFD website.

Welcome. I’m in Prescott. I think what you’re referring to with max points is the people who applied for a hunt and have the most points, another way to look at max points is the people who have been applying since the draw system started so they have max points

All three now plus everything else (range, minerals, admin). I was a timber guy for my whole career with a few fire assignments each year. Now I’m the guy running the district I guess.

I’m in Globe fairly often for work at the mines. Haven’t explored the hunting potential, but pretty country. Enjoy!

The top 20% of tags go to max point holders. For elk and deer this is by each hunt code but for bighorns and bison across all tags available. For this reason many bighorn tags (22, 24B, Black River in 1/27, others) effectively never have a chance of going to anyone who doesn’t have max points

Have you heard how things are looking from the Bush Fire?
