I hardly ever make a leather doodad for myself, but I had some time between projects so I decided to whip up an arm guard. I had purchased this scrap piece of pirarucu hide a while back for just such a thing, but had never gotten around to using it. I rediscovered it when I was going through my various piles of leather and figured that now was as good a time as any. BTW - pirarucu is a large freshwater fish in South America. They are also known as arapaima.
The backing of this arm guard is vegetable tanned cowhide and the facing is pirarucu hide. The arrowhead is made from carp hide and the trim is deer hide. I carved the lace hooks from deer antler and sewed everything up by hand using artificial sinew. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.
