Not sure where the best sub to put this is, so I figure here is as good as any…

I’m looking for some quality torx screws for my scope base. I have an Area419 base on my Tikka and I have no complaints about their product. The torx screws that came with are a different matter. The first set was soft and stripped really easy. They were cool enough to send me some new ones but two of them had their heads sheared off under recoil. So at this point I’m not interested in asking them to send more. Can anyone recommend a place to get some good quality torx screws that aren’t soft and won’t shear off?

Thanks in advance.

Brownells or Leupold are all I've used. No issues with either. Brownells might be a better source for limiting $$$ spent by buying just the size you need.

McMaster carr. You'll get killed on shipping, but you'll get a high quality product fast.

Fwiw, I've also had a few area 419 torx screws strip out on Tikka rails. I don't worry much since they're also jb welded on...

Torx are easily sourced for this app and I'd take them any day over anything else especially if you're one to use Loctite. FWIW McMaster doesn't have anything that will work in 6-48.

Are you using a driver with a torque measurement? All torque measurements are approximations, but over torquing any threaded fastener causes extreme tensile stress, especially under the head of the fastener. The combined stress state under impulsive shear loading due to firing is most likely causing the failures you're experiencing. Maybe back off a little on your torque driver.

So Area419 doesn’t care enough to source and test good screws, but people believe they care more about sourcing and testing good aluminum?

I’d second the good quality of Leupold or Brownells screws. As a functional issue, Torx heads in good quality screws are as tough as any style - if today’s shooters had to use slotted screws we’d need a whole series of posts about how to properly fit and use a flat screwdriver and a certain percentage of people would never figure it out and complain. lol

Gunsmithing screws are a specialty and even if an industrial supplier listed the size I’d not buy from them.
