My son is 10 and will be hunting with me one of the weekedns of shotgun this year. I'm looking fo a set of smaller compact binoculars that will still work well in low light. I saw the Kowa 6.5x32 and those look like a good option. I'm assuming only being 6.5 power they will preform well in low light. They are a bit more then I'd like to spend if I can avoid it. Can anyone else give some suggestions. I looked through 8x32 diamondback HD's and thought they were poor. They gave me an uneasy feeling even in the store.

I have the kowa and really like it. My kids are 9 and use it as well. It performs well in low light. Other options are a porro type binocular such as leupold Yosemite or vortex raptor series. I think 6-7x is great for kids.

I bought my son Swaro SLC's for his 13th birthday. Expensive, yes, but he'll have and use them for a long time. He's the type to take care of his stuff, so I'm not worried about that.

The Leupold BX-4's in 10x42 are pretty nice too. I have a set that are like new I need to advertise for sale. If interested, send me a message.

My son uses a pair of Diamond Back 8x32's which are pretty good for the $$, he has his Vortex glass pack as well and is happy. There a chunky looking unit and he likes the look.

Any other suggestions? I should also add that I have SLC 8x42's so I'd like something a bit differnt from what I have incase I decide to take them for a spin when he's not with me.

Ended up picking up a pair of Bushnell Nitro 10x36 on clearance. I really like them and the size should work well for a kid.

Can't recommend Maven B3 enough for the price. I use the 8x30s and never feel underglassed for eastern whitetails. Outstanding low light performance for the size too.

For a kid as well, gives them the option of customizing the look to their own taste. Would make the experience a bit more fun.
