Hello all, I’m new to this site just trying to collect info anyway I can. I’m looking for a reputable elk hunting outfitter for my dad and I. He is 73 and thinks he is running out of opportunities to kill a decent bull. Hunting from a lodge or cabin would be preferable not sure he would enjoy being on a horse for hours and sleeping on a cot for 6 days. We are not picky on states and I do have 11 wyoming points we could share. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Budget it around 10k.

I had a decent experience with Perry at Timberline Outfitters in NM if you can do primitive weapons. I say decent, as Michael Waddel was in camp the same week filming for his show, so take that as you will. This was several years ago and I’m not sure how easy a tag is to get in the gila any more, but again was a nice lodge/cabin and a relatively easy hunt (** easy in the sense of terrain and using vehicles for travel, which could bode well in your scenario)

Thank you Scottyboy
Ranking sndmn11 dad paying so budget for just outfitter is about 10k

10k budget is going to be tough to find a quality hunt for two guys, fwiw. Depending on the experience you’re looking for, I would plan on $6,500-$15,000+ per person. Not including costs of tags/applications, tips, travel, etc.

For a cabin or lodge based hunt, your going to be 10k plus per person for a decent hunt.

If that’s the budget, I’d focus on finding a good hunt for your dad, and just going along.

The 10k budget is per person and we realize there will be more for tags and travel meat processing

I wouldnt stress about aleeping on a cot. If your.outfitter is any good it will be very comfortable. Cots today are not like the.folding cots you used as a kid
Same.
My dad bought a cot in 2022 that has became a guest bed at our house and a regular part of our front-yard campouts and is light years more comfortable than the surplus junk I slept on as a kid.

I just got back from NM. Hunted with Graham’s Guide Service. Very good experience. The hunt is within your budget . Every single hunter (10) got a good elk. Food , lodging and guides were all great.
Only catch is draw chance is only 10% and a landowner tag is $10,500.
