Looking for a teammate or just some info - Colorado Hunt

I am from NY. I do almost all of my hunting (about 85-95%) solo.

I have only been hunting 4 years. Year 1, I had someone to hunt with 1/3 of the times I went out. Years 2+3 completely solo, this year, I had a tag along about 25% of the time.

I want to hunt other parts of the country and I think Colorado Elk is my first "dream hunt" to go after.

Not even sure '18 is the year (I know gotta get on that quick) or if I am starting the leg work for next year.

Either way, here are my thoughts:
Semi guided hunt - someone to basically point me in a direction
Drop camp guide - save some money, but all on my scouting
Backpack drop camp - buy my gear (as I know ill wanna do it again) now and suffer a learning curve.

More so, I guess, I am reaching out to see if any CO residents are interested in taking someone under their wing for a few days OR anyone else who is looking to take a CO trip this year wants to partner up.

The solo hunting info above is relevant cause I dont care about hunting alone at all. Its everything before and after the hunt that has me questioning what my best options are.

I like the idea of some help on a guide but I love the pride that comes with anything DIY.

I was in your same situation last year so I'm still relatively new. Not sure how old you are, but if you've got several years of hunting ahead of you I'd encourage you to do a backpack drop camp. Your learning curve will be steeper but that's a major part of the fun. You'll save a lot of money in the end and, in my opinion, have a lot more personal satisfaction. As for finding someone to take you under their wing, I tried to find someone but never had any luck. You seem like the kind of guy who knows how to ask the right questions. With enough leg work you'll be able to figure out a game plan on your own and hopefully find a buddy or two to partner with you. Good luck!

thanks for the opinion, yea I was leaning that direction. I figured if I came on here and had a dozen people yelling at me that it might be a bad idea I would maybe reconsider, hahaha.

It couldn't have been better. I shot a 300" 6 pt before the sun came up on opening morning. One of those fluke deals, but I'll take it. I was hunting first season rifle, shot him at 740 yards. Definitely got me hooked! How'd your hunt go?
