I'm heading to south Texas in a couple weeks for a hunt. I'm looking for somewhere I can gather data on how much the elevation change affects my bullet drop.

Any suggestions for a 600 yard public rifle range near Brownsville, TX?

There are none that I know of that are public bud.
I grew up in Harlingen anand live in Corpus now.

You could call Lisa and Jacob at Rifles Only and explain what you are looking to do but generally I don't believe they do this either.

If I wasn't out of town working I could help a little more on some private ranges.

Completely honest question though, where the heck are you gonna get a 600 yard shot down there? Is the place set up for long shots?

I was drawn for the Laguna Atascosa NWR hunt December 14-16. It will be my first time down that way.

The plan is always to get as close as possible, but I've heard nilgai have great eyesight and are very skittish. Not sure what to expect, but would like to have long range DOPE at lower elevation just to be prepared for accurate shot at all ranges my rifle can ethically dispatch an animal of that size.

I hear ya bud. I havent been out there in years but I would probably be suprised if you got a 400 yard shot. Definately great to be prepared but at the same time i wouldn't be overly concerned.

What is your rifle setup, ammo, bullet, etc?

Remington 700 .300 win mag, blue printed action
B&C stock, bedded
Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50, Warne rings
Hornady Precision Hunter 200 gr. HPBT factory ammo. Starting to work up load data with 212 gr. ELD-X for next season.

That's the 200gr ELDX in the precision hunter ammo correct?
I would not hesitate plugging the advertised BC in for that bullet, get a good chrono speed, and just use local weather input in a ballistic app. Dial it in and go.

You should be plenty accurate inside 600. Just make sure to use ammo from the same lot that you checked speed with and you should be plenty good.

Verifying at distance would obviously be ideal but given there not being anywhere I could think to do it down there the above method should do good for you.
