Longhunter Lid

Most guys think so highly of that capability that they cut the waist belt off and throw away the shoulder strap. ;-)

I perused the Kifaru web site and found nothing. It acts like a fanny pack with a single removable shoulder strap, but it doesn't have any real structure to it so am of the opinion it wouldn't work as well.

I know I cut the belt and the pocket that it slides into off mine. It was a lot of weight and I would never have used the lid as a pack alone. It is designed with a plain web belt and a thin shoulder strap that goes over your opposite shoulder and across your chest bandolier style. There is a video with Patrick demonstrating it but I don't know which video has that in it.

Yeah, cut that belt off. Wait til your buckle on your pack shatters 9 miles in. You'll wish you had it:)
I had to rent a buckle from Bushcraft a couple years back on a fly fishing trip. Mountain rates are steep!

i'm thinking of cutting the belt off mine. it can be used with the belt off a timberline etc anyway. this way you have the weight saving plus the convenience of already having your belt pouches on the main pack belt.

I always carry a spare buckle for that reason, but there is no need to keep the LH lid belt to do so - mine is in my chamber pocket.

Funny story about this: there was a thread on the Kifaru forum from a few years back where a guy broke the hip belt buckle on his Longhunter and packed an entire elk out without it. Only after he relayed his story to the forum was it pointed out to him that he was carrying a spare in his lid the entire time.

How did you plan on using the timberline's belt with the long hunter lid? I really don't see that working out too well.

works just fine, if not better since you have a weight saving if you cut the lid waist belt off, you have it on a more comfortable belt and you don't have to swap out your belt pouches if you want to use them with the lid.

run the shoulder strap on the belt through the 3 bar slider on the non zip end of the lid and pull it right up. then use one of the delta straps and attach it to the buckle that takes the rear strap of the lid when it's in normal use.
