What does everyone recommend to get into long distance shooting for me and my son. Maybe something budget friendly to start

1) Use what you've got.
2) Instruction/learning (in-person, print, &/or videos).
3) Ammo (not reloading), range time, and focused practice on what you learn.
4) Contests (for objective evals)
5) New gear (better scope)
6) other stuff...

WhenI first wanted to start shooting canyons. I grabbed a ruger american ranch 223, hacked on the trigger, bought some plywood from Boyd's, a 10 swfa and a pile of 75gr Amax's

It was cheap and I learned alot. That said, I wouldnt buy that rifle again. Would go tikka, or howa. Hell grab a scope off samplelist, bolt it onto whatever 223 you have now, load up some 68gr bthp's and go see whats up

Just build a tikka 6.5creed, sportsmatch rings and an SWFA 6x scope. Thats my "long range" rifle.
