Hello all , I’m going to be going to Livingston Mt for a week with my wife to explore and do a little shed hunting. I’m not looking for any specific spot to look but a decent area to start ? Pleas Pm if you have any suggestions. Thank you in advance. Jason

I'd check out either the Gallatin or Absaroka range, anywhere from the valley floor to about half way up the mountain

Travel south to Yellowstone and hike off trail in wintering habitat. You will find plenty of sheds but don’t remove them

You're asking for trouble if you go shed hunting alone?
Maybe that was a bit of an extreme idiom...what I meant was that recreating alone in grizzly country, especially somewhere in and around YNP, increases odds for a bad outcome should you encounter a bear. I used to hunt and shed hunt alone up in that region alot, but started to think long and hard about it after the bear population increased significantly and there were more regular bear/human conflicts occuring.

I always think about how many elk are killed in the fall every year in that country, and how few of those situations result in a bear conflict.

Now take away the giant pile of meat sitting there for 12-24 hours, and think about how astronomically low the odds are that something will happen while just hiking around. Driving your car to the trailhead is most likely significantly more dangerous.

100% driving is more dangerous, that's why I wear my seatbelt

I understand the rhetoric but I’ve had 2 close friends kill grizzlies in self defense and one acquaintance killed and eaten by a grizzly in the area the OP is asking about.. all with in the last few years.

Kinda interesting how the bear watchers that used to go into YNP realized that they have just as good a chance to see a griz in Tom miner Basin now...
