While Carbon Bow Giveway by Hoyt is over, you can still learn a lot from the podcast by S&S Archery and Matt Davis of Hoyt Archery. Sit back and give it a listen...

Awesome...

Finally listened. It was a great conversation for sure. I had forgotten that walk back tuning could help identify second axis issues.

I appreciated the insight about the new roller guard but it left me really wanting it on my faktor turbo! That thing has some torque in it!

I am also a big fan of higher FOC and have seen great results after going to the gold tip brass insert.

Thanks to Steve and Matt for doing this.

3rd Axis leveling. Mine is probably not as accurate as I think. I am going to spend some more time educating myself on it and probably will need to get myself a Hamskea 3rd axis level!

3rd axis for me as well. Good analogy with the saloon door and can definitely see how that would get screwy on those uphill and downhill shots. So I would assume you would need a sight with 3rd axis adjustment to take advantage of this?

Got a better understanding of cam lean. Had always heard it used as a dirty word in regard to Hoyt cams, but good to know it is part of the "machine" design.

Yes you need a sight that has true 3rd axis leveling. Some "say" they can do it by allowing you to rotate the bubble in the sight housing but really you need one that actually rotates the sight housing "Saloon Door".

My takeaway is that there is a lot of info out there. He mentioned cam timing but a lot of people like to advance one cam. I also took away that I must be really lucky because I have never really worried too much about some of the stuff. I have never messed with 3rd axis and I spent most of my life shooting out of a tree with no problems. I have never really tried to hard to get FOC just right and I have a handful of trophies from shoots and leagues. I think like many things some people obsess a bit more than they need to. I have also always shot a Hoyt so maybe thats why.:)

I did learn what questions to ask next time I take my bow in.

My takeaway was the number of different ways a bow can cause torque in the system and how they are addressed in various ways (roller guards, split limbs, riser bridge, etc).

I also learned a lot about how a bow should be set up and what things you should look for when it's being set up.

My biggest takeaway is that there are a lot of ways to screw up an archery shot in terms of setup that I didn't know about or didn't understand as well (ie 3rd axis, riser flex)

The 3rd Axis for most guys is a tough thing to understand. I'm glad that someone made it easy to understand, well done!

Good take on bow torque and grip and the discussion confirmed my thoughts on these so it was good to listen in.

The brace behind the riser had a purpose to torque and flex and not design or a place for me to carry in the mountains.

The 3rd axis for me as well. That was so much simpler than any other explanation I've been able to find!
