Right now I currently run an outdoorsman’s medium tripod. I love the tripod because it’s so simple and easy to use. But it is a little big on the pack and heavy. I’m on the fence about either selling it, or grabbing another smaller tripod and just keeping it as a backup.

Considering some of the black Ovis options because price is always something to consider. Am I just being a weight baby or is there some weight savings to be had here

For sure there is weight savings to be had. What head are you using, and what does your rig weigh?
Depending on what you want (height, stability, price, etc), you could get as light as 22-26ounces including tripod and head…but hard to say given no parameters. Aziak, the slik above have tripods around 20oz, a tricer or weiser pan head is 4.5-5oz.

I have the outdoorsman’s pan head as well. I love how smooth it is. Once again I am pretty sure it’s heavier than most

I just picked up the Black Ovis Alpine Pro and Aziak mini ball head for my wife. Blackovis had a 20% off sale on their branded gear so I had to try it. And I just wanted the ball head..😉

Its a sweet little tripod given the price. It's not as light or compact as my Aziak. The fit and finish is not as nice either. But I can't complain.
Stability is pretty good but neither is as stable as a larger tripod. As the weather keeps warming I'll spend some more time behind the Ovis just because I don't see much about them.

My biggest complaint is it's max height. I wish it could go just a tad bit taller.
I do actually love the longer 3rd leg when sitting on a decent slope.

I'm eyeballing getting a larger tripod though foe those really windy days or those rifle hunts where I may want to shoot off it.

Aziak backcountry + tricer LP is laughably light and compact. Significant weight savings over my leophoto ranger ls-284 and ball head.

Aziak Front Country and Tricer LP user here. Extremely light for a full height tripod and way more compact than anything else on the market.

Sirui AM-225 with the B00K ball head. These are right at 2lbs total and can be had for $100 on sale.
It is the absolute best value if you are looking for a lightweight tripod that you won’t use for standing.
