I have used a TC encore muzzleloader for deer hunting for years in Indiana, but just decided to get a rifle barrel for it. I’ve been going on some hunts out west and my 300 Wby weighed in at over 11 pounds with the scope and suppressor. Seeking something lightweight - This Encore should be the ticket!
TC Encore Frame
SSK tapered fluted barrel 300 Win Mag
Choate stocks (krylon job)
VX2 3-9x40 for now
I went with a 22” barrel to keep it short for my suppressor, I knew I’d give up a little velocity but it I accepted that for the increased mobility.
I didn’t get the barrel in time to work up a load for deer season, but I chronoed some 150 grain Winchester SP’s - Average velocity of 3209 for 5 rounds! I was very impressed with this out of the short pipe. Accuracy was right at an inch. Hoping to shrink that group on a more calm day with handloads.
Planning on adding a suppressor and swapping the scope for a Leupold Mk4 that I have on the shelf prior to taking it on a western hunt.
Weighed in at 7lbs even fully dressed.
