How you like it there in Post Falls? I've thought of relocating up that way

Love it here, Post Falls is more of a working mans town, not a tourist trap. With Spokane only 10 miles away their's no long drive for major shopping. Better paying jobs there too. I worked at a place there called URM stores, one of the biggest co-op's in Washington as a truck mech. retired last Dec. National forest is about 45min. from the house so no long drives to hunt. Almost forgot, Cabalas is 5min. from my house lol.

Lived out West my whole life, but have moved between several states for my job. In general, western towns will not have the same sense of community or neighbor to neighbor interaction when compared to the East or South. I prefer the privacy myself, just brought it up since you mentioned community as a priority in your post. It usually takes a few years to "settle in" to the smaller western communities. It's not that folks are unfriendly, just more of a respect for each other's space. Also, may want to line up work, as there may not be the variety or quantity of jobs in many western locations. Otherwise, I say go for it.

One thing we all need to think about more and I've read where's Bruce on this before and it has become clear to me since moving from Fla to ID is we all need to quit running from liberalism and stay and fight I thought that getting out of a large city like Tampa and moving to Boise I would get away from it all.... my F'n neighbors here have a Bernie sander bumper sticker!! The grass is definitely greener and I didn't totally move because of that, but if we are moving because of political reasons then we are making the wrong choice imo stay and fight what I've seen in my travels at least is this ideology isn't going anywhere and we need to stay and take the fight to them by winning back our education system and local authorities only then I believe we can make some changes to these areas. States like California where all the conservatives have flees is exactly the reason that place is like it is. Just my .02 and stuff I have pondered on since my move, I want this place to be my grandkids home and I intend on fighting for it

30 here, I've moved twice further and further away from family. To be honest, it sucks... at first. Then once you've figured the place out, made your home, make some friends thats when it gets better / fun. There's no avoiding the sucky part, but it doesn't last long. They call it FOMO - fear of missing out that happens on holidays when you'd like to see everyone, but it's part of the decision you make. I don't regret it at all and I'm better for it.

Wow, it is almost like I typed the original topic.

40ish years old, married with 3 kids (4, 12 and 16). Raised in central North Dakota since I was 6. Graduated HS there......went away to college and moved back. Have an awesome job that I have been at for 17 years.

Family spent a week in Coeur D'Alene this past summer, and we are pulling up stakes and moving next summer. Real Estate is affordable, cheap taxes. Weather is much more bearable winter and summer. It was a tough couple months trying to get a decision made......but we are moving forward with it.

Life is short....I am still highly employable (Electrician) and we figured the worst thing that can happen is we move back.

It's a personal choice which has a different result for everyone. I moved west (Wyo.) at age 26. Stayed there 'til I was 52 and could retire. Wife and I then returned back to our native Upper Penninsula of Michigan. All in all the time spent out west was good. I was able to enjoy the great outdoors of Wyoming for 2.5 decades which I never would have had that opportunity. Having said that there are many negatives from not being near family both emotionally and having a support system when needed. I was in a rather small community that was predominantly one religion and everything revolved around the church. If you were a non member your social and professional opportunities were very limited. Huge influence on the children. Even after many years of residence you were tolerated but never completely accepted. We survived and managed to make our own niche. Sooooo, be careful where you go, hunting and fishing isn't everything! Right now I feel like we're where we need to be. Family is so important. Mentioning another tangent it's financially much better in the upper Midwest. Real estate went crazy in the section of western Wyoming where we lived. I was able to purchase a much better home and acreage moving back then if I had stayed. Lastly, one very important suggestion. Should you that strong desire to move west, do it when you're young and in good health/physical condition. Those mountains seem to grow higher and steeper as you age.

Thanks again guys for sharing. My Sister and BIL moved to Alberta and have never come home (it was suppose to be temporary). She said the hardest time is holidays when we are all together and she is left out. But then she remembers how much she enjoys her life there and it wares off.

I am NOT moving for just the hunting, I wouldn't do that to my family just for me. My wife wants to move more than I do. She loves the beauty of the mountains and is excited for an adventure for the family. The idea of starting new traditions with our family and us growing closer together is a big part of the desire.

One thing I keep hearing everywhere is do it NOW don't wait. Like Coach529 said the worst that can happen is we move back. However it will not be the same and I know that I can never go back to the exact same, we're fine with that though.

One thing that really pushed us to move forward is the desire to not have any regrets. I know if we did not give it a shot we would regret it.

We are a very outdoor family. Both my boys race motocross and bicycles. We all love to hunt and fish, camp, hike, etc!!

The area we are moving to has soo much more to offer for my family than where we are now.

Leaving family is tough......but I would almost think that seeing them a couple times a year, the time you spend is more quality than when you live across town?

Good on you dad. Enjoy these years with your kids and be patient, your time will come.
