Leupold vx-3i 3.5-10x40 cds alternatives?

Building a Howa .308 (handing down my Ruger M77 to my son for his birthday in June) and looking to put a scope on it in the next month. I was convinced that this was the scope I was going to be putting on it but I'm up for considering alternatives in the same price range. We mostly hunt whitetails here in Missouri with 90% of our shots being under 200 yds. I want a simple duplex reticle. No suggestions of Nightforce or Swaro's please... trying to be realistic here with my budget, lol

Vx3i is a good scope for the money. Older vipers the same.

Nikons are going out of business so you can get middle class scopes for reduced rates. I'd never put em up against a vx2 or vx3i but good enough for the dollar., will kill deer.

You can also get close out Bushnell elite 4500 and it ain't bad. I swapped vx3i for elite 4500 this year.

I found the 3.5-10x40 CDS at Sportsmens Warehouse for $330 a couple months ago. That was with free shipping to my P.O. Box here in AK.
