Sooooo I'm a psychopath and ordered a CA Ridgeline in .300 win mag haha! I want to put a VX6 on top with the cds. I'm not a reloader so my question is how do I go about picking a factory load to have the custom turret? The gun will be used for hunting whitetail, muleys, and elk. Thanks in advance guys!

You have shoot it and see what it likes best than order the dial

Then look at the ballistics of the bullet you like best. They are usually on the manufacturer's box or site. Give that info to Leupold plus your elevation and average hunting temperature and you will be close enough.

Pick a factory load. Chrono it, don't go off the box - the load I'm using was 200fps less. Measure scope height, pick a zero range and use the serial # for the first free dial. I got mine back before I went to Kodiak a few weeks back and was ringing steel at 300y with the twist of the dial right off the bat.

I just got mine in the mail a couple days ago for my .280 AI. I'm really looking forward to trying it out.

It's pretty damn solid, I haven't stretched further than 300y or checked the actual elevation accuracy at 300. Given the shot placement on a freshly painted steel, I'm feeling pretty confident with it.

Not too keen on the 2550fps I'm getting with factory ammo, I know I can get over 2900 stable with a reload which will flatten out the trajectory quite a bit.

Perhaps for Christmas I'll pick up a reloading kit.

Or just come on over and bring a round of the factory 180 Swifts you got so we can get a COAL that your rifle likes and maybe stoke the fire a bit brighter below it in the case than what the factor is getting ya ;)

Does the CDS turret on the Leupold turn that easy that you have to worry about it turning accidentally when you are putting it into a pack or scabbard? I have used a BDC turret from Kenton Industries and have never had it turn accidentally. I am in the market for a new scope and I have narrowed it down to a VX-3i 3.5-10x40 mm or a Swaro Z3 3-10x42 mm. Both have custom turrets but the Swaro is substantially more expensive.

i was afraid of this when i ordered my vx3 with cds..
after actually putting my hands on the scope and using it in the field while hunting, I don't think there will be any issues with it accidentally turning.

i'm sure it's possible, as is on any adjustable turret but I run a scope shield at all times which mitigates that possibility. I also check zero on occasion.

I was worried about this as well and is why I ultimately went with the VX-6 with the Zero Lock feature.

Been a great scope so far!

I am a fan of the CDS system, put a VX-2 3x9x40 on my .308, zeroed at 200 yards, dialed it up to 300 rang the dinner plate on the first shot, dialed it up to 400 and rang the plate at 400. I've never attempted the 400 at the range before due to not being able to hit the 300 consistently with my previous setup. Now I'm looking for 500 yard targets!

I've got the cds on a 7mm08 that is solid. I've never had the dial move on mine either but I'm sure it is possible. I killed both my blacktails opening morning this year and the first was at 400, dialed up and hit him, he ran maybe 100 yards probably less. Dialed back to my 100 yard zero and on my way over to the first buck had one of the other bucks in the group at less than 150, I didn't dial on this one but I didn't need to. He went down in seconds. For me the scope has tracked perfectly. I've got another one on a 7 mag I need to work up a load for and will probably put one on a 300 win mag I just bought.

living where i live, where a rifle range is a unicorn..going with the CDS was not a good option for me. i wanted it on my 257 wtby and i go up and down with factory loads with different weight ammo. and i dont have ready access to a chronograph.

so i just had them use the CDS turrets and cut regular MIL-dot increments on it. i dont have a problem with a taped cheat sheet on my scope for the shooting. i am a bowhunter at heart first and foremost. my rifle days are so far and few in between. i just cant dedicate full immersion into the tool.

The short answer is, yes. That's exactly what happened to me on my last hunt. While my pilot was trying to fit my rifle in the plastic gun boot, that was strapped to the wing struts, the elevation turret got spun around bringing my zero up about a foot at 100 yards. This was with the original turret that was not yet made up for my caliber, elevation, temp, etc. I have since sent in all the information and had a custom turret made up. I haven't had a chance to get it to the range yet but it does have a stop at 100 yards so now, even if it does get spun, I can just turn it back down to the 100 yard stop.

Agreed, I have had mine spin in the scabbard. I only use the zero stop version for hunting now. It's a pain to lose zero five miles in during a hunt.
