I have a new pair of BX-5 10x42’s and before purchasing I had read multiple reviews listing the looseness of the hinge as a con. Well my new pair also was very loose. I stumbled across the solution to that today.
1). Unscrew and remove to front cover for the tripod adapter mounting location.
2). There is a small threaded collar on that hinge post. It is held in position by 1 tiny allen head set screw. There are 3 possible locations for that set screw, so find the one with the actual screw installed. Loosen that set screw.
3). Turn the threaded collar clockwise with your fingers to tighten. Check hinge resistance. Adjust as required.
4). Re-tighten set screw.
I am not a binocular repair person, but I could play one on TV. This advise is worth what you paid for it.
