I'm looking to get back into bow hunting (its been over 10 years), and instead of researching the let off rules for each western state, I'm hoping I can get a summary from yall so I can determine which "let off" percentage will be legal for the most western states. Ive been looking at the Hoyt and Mathews bows, so is a let off of 80-85 percent legal in most states? I don't want to get a new bow and then limit which states I could use it in. Is there a quick reference that shows a breakdown for let off requirements for all the states?

That used to be a big deal within the state regs, not sure if it still is with the technology advances they have made over the years. Colorado is 80 percent, but if I start applying in other states, I want to ensure I am within their state requirements. My immediate concerns will be for New Mexico, Arizona, and Wy requirements.

I looked through the NM 2017-2018 booklet, and couldn't find anything regarding let off, so if I'm right, there is no restrictions for let off percentage in New Mexico??

To show how old my bow is...I was running a High Country Supreme from the early to mid 1990's...LOL...so yeah, its time for an upgrade.

If you go with 60% you'll be fine. If you need 80% then maybe your bow is too much poundage.

Sorry , I shoot a longbow. Let off was about 65% when I started barebow compound hunting.

Around 80% has become the standard for most bow manufactures and I think most state regs. are in that range too. 80% is to me a good range, anymore than that and accuracy starts to go down hill. Kind of like trying to shoot a rifle that weighted 2lbs. real high letoff and real light rifle wobble all over the place.
