Leica Rangefinder is manufactured by... Leupold?!?

Just got a Rangemaster 2800.com. getting it all setup and came across this line in the quick start guide:

"This product is manufactured under license by Leupold & Stevens, Inc."

I'm confused.

Correct. Leupold holds a number of US Patents for aiming devices, optics, and rangefinding technology and associated features like equivalent horizontal range. My guess is it is a License for Leica to manufacture rangefinders to sell in the USA.

Leica rangefinders are manufactured in their facility in Portugal.
