Due to some work changes, I've found myself now living on the Left Coast in CA (Bakersfield area). Anyone else close to this area?

So far I've managed to shoot a bunch of ducks and do some quail/chuckar hunting this past season. Going to start my research on some blacktail hunting for this coming season and hopefully get some turkey hunts in also if I'm lucky. It's definitely a change of pace from living in TX the past 8 years.

You probably end up heading up further north if you want more opportunities for deer and bear. Blacktail are elusive little suckers. You may hop over into the blacktail section and snoop around.

If you have money to burn there is Tejon ranch down there. Really great hunting. Best black tail hunting is way up north or on private ranches on the west. The best muley hunting is on the Eastside of the state. Which most are in the x zones. I hunt d6 and d5. In the high counrty with some luck. Great looking counrty, but deer herds are small. Good luck.

To jumpstart your research for public lands, start here and in the zone pdf's look under "hunting tips and where to look for deer" section. The areas listed there are where a large percentage of the deer are historically killed and near where highway check stations are setup for tag validation.

Not close to Bako but I'd love to see some pics of that 64. Had a 72 then a 69 back in the day.

I've been looking around there some. I figured heading north would be my best option for sure. May even look at going toward the Central Coast some too.

Tejon has some great hunting but like you said, you really pay for it there. For what they charge on their hunts, I'd rather go out of state somewhere ha!

Thanks. I've browsed through some of their literature. Always a good starting point.

Almost done with it. Have some wiring to finish up (rewiring everything) and then it's just some small odds and ends. It's my weekend cruiser and drag strip toy. I have 2 LS 6.0's for it.. one is a carb motor the other is FI and has a 88mm turbo. nova1.jpg

You can check out the Greenhorn Mt north of Lake Isabella or the Piute Mt, both well within your range. I use to do a lot of deer and quail hunting in both areas. Once you get into the higher areas you can get into Mt. quail which are the best eating quail there is. Lake Isabella can have some decent fishing when the lake is up, which it isn't right now. Bass, trout, catfish, crappie, and other pan fish.

The good news is you have a lot of Public Land to roam now!

Thanks! I've seen some mountain quail when taking my daughter up to play in the snow. My brother in law and I were discussing hunting some this next season. I may have to head up past Johnsondale and do some dual scounting/fly fishing
