Looking to start compiling a clothing system for next year. Figure I can start now and slowly piece it together and look for used pieces or find some summer sales. What I am going to be doing is pursuing elk in Wyoming (mid to late November) as well as possibly elk in Arizona around the same time frame. I know Wyoming will be colder and this is the hunt I have nearly a 100% chance of drawing. I currently use almost all Sitka EVII camo for my whitetail gear and have some Subalpine for the early season when leave are still on the trees. I understand the importance of layering and have a lot if not all the required base layers and some of the mid layers. Below Ill list what I have and the general idea of what I'll need. Please leave your input. Im not married to getting Sitka Gear, but It has worked well for me and I like the fit. 6'1" 200# Fit Build

Things I have
- Base layers, lightweight and heavy weights covered
- Sitka Ascent Pants (both hunts would be way to cold for these)
- Sitka Mountain Jacket (subalpine)
- Sitka Stratus Jacket and Pants (EVII camo, heavy, not really backpacking kinda gear)
- Gloves and Hats galore
- Columbia Puffy (not hunting, more leisure, but it is warm, never layered with it)

Things Ill need
- Rain Gear (for snow or rain)
- Warmer Pants than the Ascent, thinking Timberline Pants
- Outerwear Jacket (can combine outerwear jacket with rain jacket if there is a good crossover between the two)
- Insulation Pieces (jacket, puffy pants?)
- Boots. Quality boots
- gaters

This is a rough Idea. let me know what you think. I know hiking ill want to be dressed as to not overheat, but when we stop and glass in the early morning and throughout the day it will be cold and Ill need to stay warm.

I’m still new, but I’ve been on the same path. I’ll be after Mule, Coues, and Elk in AZ, CO, UT in both archery and rifle. I’ll also be heading to British Columbia for various big game. Trying to find the best all around setup. I’ve got this so far...
Mountain Jacket
Jetstream Vest
Timberline Pants
Uncompahgre Puffy (First Lite)
Various base layers in light and heavy
SS Shirt for all the hiking midday

Still looking for a rain gear set up. Something cheap as it doesn’t rain much in AZ. Thinking a poncho or Frogg Toggs. Maybe next years hunts I’ll need something better. Take a look at the Jetstream for some warmth over your puffy, seems like an adequate setup for late season in most climates.

I like that mountain jacket but it docent do much to keep my "warm". Ho are the Timberline pants? are they light enough you could run them without any long johns and still be moderately comfortable for a hike?

Yeah, the mountain jacket is a shell to keep the wind off me. The layers underneath are for warmth. The timberlines seem pretty good. I’ll know more after I go out for my first time with them. I have a pair of the Sitka lightweight long johns to go underneath to soften things a bit and wick away any moisture. These are very thin and provide minimal heat, so I’m thinking they’ll be good for hiking. I’m not sure of about wearing the timberlines without a layer underneath. Might be a tad rough, but I guess that depends on ones skin. I’m hoping they’ll be ok for early season as well in the NorthWest. I’m ordering a pair of merino pants from First Lite that are supposed to be very good for all season’s, just in case.
