I'm going to be traveling for work in the next month, with stops in both Las Vegas, NV and Boulder, CO. I should have a day to myself in both places. Any suggestions on what to do? Things/places I should definitely try to see/do? I've never been to either place, so any and all suggestions are welcome. Also, I will have a rental car in both locations.
I guess I should mention that the typical Las Vegas experience (gambling, shows, etc.) holds next to no appeal for me; I'm more interested in the countryside. Thanks!

A trip to the dam in Vegas is cool. I'm a golfer, so when I am in Vegas I always golf.

I live about 15 mins from Boulder. If I were you I would wake up, go have breakfast at snooze. Get there early, or you will have a long wait for a seat. Then hop in the car and drive up the canyon to Nederland. It's a little sleepy mountain town. There's all kinds of hiking and snowshoeing up there depending on snow at the time. Or, just puts around in the car, lots of great views and only about 30 mins from Boulder.

I completely forgot about the dam. Valley of fire looks like a great option, I think I'll find a good day hike to do there. I checked out the menu at snooze, looks great! Never has my pb&j looked so boring...

X2 on the dam and the Valley of Fire. I had my doubts about taking one of the bus tours out to the dam, but it was totally worth the trip.

In Boulder if you have time the Nederland idea mentioned above is good, or just go a bit further to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Leaving Vegas and heading to Boulder now. Made a quick trip to the dam, and spent some time in valley of fire. Both were incredible, the drive to valley of fire was worth it alone! Then again, I'm an east coast guy, so the bar is low

Cool, depending on when you get here, you may catch some of out classic spring weather....80 one day, snow and 40 the next!

Remember to eat at snooze if you want the best bfast you've ever had, or if it's lunch time there is a Latin place literally right next door to snooze that does awesome ceviche, empanadas and that type stuff for lunch/dinner.

My wife and I were in boulder this weekend and enjoyed the eclectic people watching. It's a trip sometimes...you see some wild and goofy stuff. Things like a guy riding a unicycle down the street while playing his guitar, with only a pair of short on...which may or may not have been boxers...

Any time I leave the mountains for Boulder I always go to the Mont Bell store on Pearl St. Lots of cool stuff to geek out over and it's staffed by some knowledgable mountaineers. While you're on Pearl check out the mall, people cam get weird. Neptune Mountaineering is always worth a stop too, super cool moumtaineering museum/mega store.

Well as a long time resident of the People's Republic I can offer more ideas than I care to type. If you only have a day and the weather is nice, go for a hike in the Flatiirons...the mountains in Boulder's backyard that you can see from most anywhere. Hiking in from Chataqua Park will get you to a lot of good spots. Some local advice will help you find other trails. Good beers and eates at Under the Sun, Fate, and Bru as well as others. As mentioned above the Latin place (Aji) has some nice mojitos and ceviche as well as main courses. And if you are on an unlimited expense account go to Frasca!

Spent a week in Vegas this month. Went on a mountain bike ride and it was a blast. Check out Las Vegas Cyclery. They also do road cycling tours.
Edit...bummer just saw i am a little late. Should have read all posts in thread.

Sounds like the forecast isn't going to be kind to me while I'm here, except for today.
Got a burger at backcountry pizza (?), was pretty good. Saw somebody that looked like they were carrying everything they had on their back, but they had a hula hoop, cause, you know, priorities. It takes all sorts I suppose.
Snooze first thing in the am, then work, then freedom! (For a day.)

Well since the ops last post in this thread was from THE YEAR 2015 , I'm curious if he made it out of Vegas safely. ...
Yup ole Pete is alive and well on Rokslide, this is an interesting choice for a thread to necromance. Carry on.

Casino Royale is the best place in Las Vegas where it is the biggest assortment of slots and pokers tables. The enviro matte create a nice atmosphere and make you feel like you are a professional poker player. If you are noob in gambling I recommend to check the gambling site and learn few rules and get more experience to not lose all your money in the first hour of playing new video slot games online
