Lapping scope rings

I check every set of rings with a lapping bar before I mount a scope. This one in particular is the farthest out of true I've ever seen out of the 11 sets of Talley rings I've mounted. Would you have lapped these, or sent them back? I lapped and mounted, just curious what the consensus was on this subject.

Sorry for the poor photo quality, I didn't realize my phone lens was covered in hydraulic oil until after the scope was mounted.

I never lap my rings and never have had an issue. I do buy night forces/spurh quality rings for the most per but either way I do don’t even check. I probably would’ve just sent them back though. When I set up any of my fiends rifles it takes something very noticeable for me to even bother checking on the alignment.

I lap all of mine just for piece of mind.

As for yours, I would have sent them back. Your before pick with the bar pictured makes it look like the rings are not even round.

I received a set like this last year. My lapping results looked almost exactly like yours. I sent them back to Midway and the second set was perfect. I don’t understand how something that is machined (CNC presumably) over and over, doesn’t go 10/10.

Looking at the lapping marks on that front ring almost make it seem like the screw holes in the action might be out of alignment and not on the same plane. I've never had a set of Talleys not check out when I put my alignment bars in them, not saying it isn't possibly. Either way the rings or the rifle would have been going back for repair or replacement depending on which one was the problem before I removed that much material.

I use nothing but Talley rings and don't worry about lapping. About 10 years ago I sent in a rifle to Hill Country Rifles for their accurizing service and asked them about their lapping process. They asked if the rings I was sending in were top and bottom style rings or closed clam shell like. I said clam shell like. Not saure if thsoe were the exact terms they used but their answer was that rings that came together fro the side like that didnt need to be lapped. Since then I don't use rings that have a top and bottom and haven't had any issues.
