Kuiu Upland Field Vest Review ***Updated 11/24/24***

I got permission to spend some time out of my labrum surgery sling/brace. I took up an offer to put the dingo on ma good friend's bird club membership. It was 50deg by 830a and 65deg by midday. The carbon stay and ability to carry lots of water paid off for the brown dog.

I'm enjoying it more each time out. We are still raiding the bird farms and the way the stay sits the weight on my hip makes an easy day. Lots of water and several roosters/hens feels the same as training days.

Have you lost any birds out of it? I hunted with a friend who was "briskly walking" in a picked bean field to try and cut off some running roosters and we had to trace his steps back to find 2 birds that came out. I could see him and he was certainly not running.

I have a Wing Works vest with the standard sized game bag (not the XL guide size) and have lost a couple of birds out of it. 8 chukars is pushing the limit of what it will hold, especially if I sit down and lean against the hillside.

I haven't. I am curious if he uses the fold-out stays to keep it pen or not?

I have two water bottle pockets inside the game bag part on my left, and the medical kit inside the game bag part on the right. That keeps the birds in the center and away from the hole, so I wonder if that has anything to do with that. Hunting the bird farms is the only time we have picked up more than a bird on a walk, though, so I may have gotten lucky or not be moving quickly enough to bounce any out.

He did not have the stays out. When we loaded him back up we used the stays. He had 2 phez in his vest. I don't recall anything else in the pouch.

I like mine. I did add a small stretch cord between the two sides of the bird pouch. Keeps the sides pulled inward vs wanting to open outward and collect leaves and sticks in stock form, maybe helps hold the birds in place too. Most I ever had in it was 3 Huns or a rooster and a couple of quail. No issues with losing them with the Huns and chukar hunting done in real rough terrain.
