good luck in your search. bag shopping was daunting for me. i dont think i am done, i think i am sleeping colder and colder. sucks.

i will preface this with I have zero experience with the kuiu bag and very little experience with actual high quality down bags. but I have been to feathered friends, and have been on the phone with WM a bit lately as I am to looking for a new bag. the two companys have been amazing to interact with, from what I have read they fully stand behind their product. also the track record for these 2 companies is really unmatched as far as down bags are concerned. and you can get a similar bag at less of a price then from kuiu. I also am not a fan of the idea of treated down. ive spent a couple nights in my dads FF bag and it is very well made.

Hey GG I love your post man. Way to lay it out there... I know what you mean about feeling like your betraying your brand Lol. I switched from Kifaru Pack this year to try out the New Exo3500 it was a internal struggle. Still love Kifaru. Still got the Xing but dropping the 450$ on the Exo after sporting the Kifaru Packs for the last 2 years was a bit of a struggle. Anyway I just sold my WM Highlite and Moved to the Quilt so Im no help but I definitely related to your post here.

James, good post and the timing is impeccable. Not to hijack the original thread, however, I also just ordered an EXO 3500 after having Stone Glacier and Kifaru which I still have. Just something about that pack and Steve is a great guy do deal with plus they are local and made in the USA. And of course, the other companies are great.
Feathered friends are great bags and there are others out there that work well also. Buying a sleeping bag is tough but my suggestion is to get the best you can afford. I ended up going with a Valandre Bloody Mary as I like a bit more room than most bags.

Don't remember the exact details, but I do recall that the Kuiu bag is just another manufacturer's bag that has been rebadged and had a few things changed and then Kuiu turns around and charges a higher price. I'm sure the info is on Rokslide somewhere.

No experience with Kuiu bags altho a friend just bought 2 during their sale and is impressed with the build and feel of them. But it's summertime in Texas so he has no actual time in the bags camping.

Not to dissuade you from looking at the Kuiu bags, but I have a Western Mountaineering Badger 15 deg and love it. It's a bit wider in the chest/shoulders than a mummy, and Iwas plenty warm in it with the temp inside my tent at 19 deg.

I can't help with the KUIU bag but shopping for a sleeping bag is easy for me. Just drive down to the local mountaineering shop and buy a new WM. Fortunately, after three years of hard use, I don't see having to replace my current one for another 7-10 years.

My 20* WM is quite simply one of the best pieces of backcountry gear I've ever owned!

What 20 WM bag do you have? Trying to decide between a 15 and 20 bag. Rarely get out past October so leaning towards a good 20.

By the way nice looking springer, I lost my mine last year and finally ready to start looking again . The are amazing bird dogs and even better family pets.

Depends on how big a guy you are. If your a smaller guy the ultralite. If your a bigger guy the Alpinelite. I'm a bigger guy and love my alpinelite. One of the best gear purchases I ever made

RipLip,

What Rick said. I've got the ultralight which works perfect until a 30# wet and cold Brittany squeezes in :)

Good luck on the puppy search. Mines 11 yrs old going on two!

GreyGhost,

I'm not sure where you are located but if you're near Seattle check out Pro Mountain Sports in the U district. Great little shop that any Rokslider would love.

I'm sure the KUIU will work great for you but if you want to do a side by side comparison they've got a nice line of WM bags to compare against.

Im sure it will be great. Kuiu doesnt put out bad gear. Just different that doesnt agree with some folks, but Im sure the bag will work wonderfully.
