Kuiu QC issues?

Here are some of my kuiu items, after less than 1/2 dozen uses each. Is this the quality across the board? If it isn't going to last long, I won't last long as their customer.

Did you contact them or are just just the complaining type?

From my experience they normally take care of it.

Did you try contacting kuiu before complaining on the Internet? In my experience their customer service is pretty good, I'm sure they would take care of you.

A. I'm asking to see if others have/had the same issues.

B. Complaining because none of the other clothing I own and use more has had this issue.

C. Two different items....is it a material issue or did I have a bad batch X2?

I had frays and seams come undone on a couple of pieces, so I sold em. I think you'll find some questionable QC on the occasional piece regardless what the mfr's logo is, if it's made overseas you will eventually see flaws.

I've had numerous problems and called customer service once after the pockets came unglued on my chinook pants. They said they will not warranty it because I may have washed it incorrectly. Even when I told them I had yet to wash them, they wouldn't take them back.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't want an unwashed pair of stinky pants that had been used two weeks straight in the hills of Idaho showing up in my mail either!

But I've had numerous seam issues as well. I am selling all of my kuiu stuff. More than the quality, it's an image that I don't want to be a part of anymore.

I'm sure they will take care of you if you contact them about the seams coming undone. They have always treated me well. I had a merino shirt one of the very first ones right when they came out. Wore the shirt once and washed it. Mysteriously had probably 10-15 holes anywhere from pencil eraser size up to a quarter appear in the shirt. They sent me a brand new shirt no questions asked didn't even want pictures from what I remember. I believe that has been my only warranty issue with them and I have bought alot of their clothing both new and used and used that clothing heavily since Kuiu has been available. Have returned a few items and those have always gone smoothly as well.

They will take care of you which is great. The more important question is if you have to constantly have to be taken care of because of product issues, does not sounds to be very common. Pretty sad that a guy asks a question of the forum and gets jumped on for asking.

I have had issues with:
210 zip offs: lots of pilling, very tight fit (I have slim legs and they are super tight, very little stretch unfortunately)
210 shirt: lots of pilling
Guide dcs vest: stitching coming out in collar
145 ls shirt: has a funky smell when wet, this is apparently an issue with a lot of merino camo*

It is a huge cost to send back items from up in Canada, which was my own risk for buying from Kuiu out of the US so will not comment much on that aspect however they are trying hard to make it right.

I lint rolled my teton shirt and it took some of the camo print off. I contacted cs they are willing to take it back. I choose to keep it since it didn't do it again. Maybe there was more dye than what the fabric can hold?

I see you got the standard "your just a complainer" replies.

I think they are trying so hard to pump out clothing to take care of demand that QC is lacking quite a bit. In general, anything that comes from China has more QC problems. And in general there are always "bad batches" of things. But it does seem to be happening more with Kuiu than other brands. I've had seam problems on multiple pieces as well and CS would not take them back. Just another nail in the coffin in why I'll never buy Kuiu again..

So ya, try CS. But keep posting this up so people can see for themselves. Alot of people post QC problems with Kuiu but without pics/proof, so this is a great visual.

It's funny how some people become enamored by a company...and I include myself in that group. Love Kifaru, I do. Their stuff changed my backcountry experiences for the better. But Kuiu? Not so much. Not because of their products or QC or the "normal stuff" but because of the odd way they operate. I've owned product-based businesses and things like inventory control, maintaining a website and providing superior customer care are really not that difficult. You don't even need to "think" about it...the path is already cleared and if you can read a book you can learn how to run any product-based business by the numbers. It only becomes complicated when you lack funds and must cut corners.

I think the fact that Kuiu continues to make the same mistakes demonstrates there's an amatuer at the helm. Website crashing every sale, always backordered on products but more telling is the shift from quality camos to private label goods and experimental spinoffs like sleeping bags, tents, etc. The company saw what they believed to be a movement in the sporting industry and sought to capitalize on it. Branding the logo and look of Kuiu became more important than providing a decent inventory of clothing. This is a fanboy-driven model. I understand it but again, it sure looks like a company that is under-funded to me. But they managed to get people to buy new, untested products far in advance so bully for them. But I question the Kuiu leadership's integrity. When the tent leaked there was no recall. If you post something on the Kuiu forum that paints them in a poor light or reveals something that could injure their bottom line, it is censored. This from a founder who posted a public letter promising transparency. Is Kuiu's moment over? We'll see. I have never seen anyone called a First Lite douche. Or Kryptek douche. Or even a Sitka douche.

I have a far bigger problem...I keep buying camo I don't need. I'm a gear ho with more patterns and pieces than a Chinese puzzle manufacturing plant. I love trying different brands, patterns, materials, cuts and I blame you guys for all the friggin' hype and rave reviews! End of rant, gotta go order some of this new Sitka Core nonstink Polysomethingereother.
