Ok I'm a new KUIU owner. First timer with the jacket, and guide pants. How well will this perform in the rain? I'm trying to figure out my pack list for an October Elk hunt in WY. Thinking of carrying a poncho in my pack in case of a total down pour. Not sure if I want to carry around extra gear if I don't have to.

Thanks

It's not waterproof. When I'm backpacking in I take a superdown and chugach and leave the guide at home. It's great when I'm day hunting and hang it up to dry at the cabin. It seems to handle light rain no problem but I don't want count on it for my only outerlayer.

The guide jacket will serve you well on days when it is not a constant rain, as it will eventually soak through. I like to where the guide pants when the temps hit daytime highs in the 30's or lower as they are warm. They shed snow very well and do ok in the rain, but as with the jacket they will leak through in a day of constant rain.
